How To Recycle Plastic

Recycling Plastic In 2020

Most types of plastic can now be recycled successfully and turned into useful everyday items. For example, Amazon sells some great recycled pens for people who do not wish to buy new, and remember recycled furniture is incredibly popular with households across the UK. Disposable objects are the worst when it comes to recycling. They are too easy to throw away haphazardly that people do not think twice about it. Thankfully that has changed in 2019 as the public embraces recycling to avoid the use of landfills.

With more and more objects being recycled this year, we all need available recycling facilities more than ever. So, here is our list of disposable objects the public is keen on recycling more in 2020.

How To Recycling Plastic Bags

The plastic bags that can be recycled now are the ones given out the UK supermarkets and other shops on your high street nowadays. They are much thinner and distinctly different from the thicker ones that can be purchased which resemble a canvas type. Just remember to keep a few in the car and avoid buying them every time you shop!

How To Recycle Plastic Bottles

We know that plastic bottles come in all shapes, sizes and uses. The most popular plastic bottles it seems are the ones used for water or fizzy drinks. These are made from plastic that is a bit more flexible and easier to recycle now.

Milk Containers – the flimsy milk jugs and the bottles but not the Tetra Pac – are made from materials that can be fully recycled. They do not actually look like the usual plastic bottles, but that is because they are a different type of plastic. Remember to rinse out any milk remnants before disposing of them.

Recycling Plastic Straws

This recently in the news became a bigger issue! Plastic straws are more hygienic to use if you are not sure that the drinks container is totally clean, and they are easy to set aside after use to include with your other plastic recycling. Plastic straws are usually made from polypropylene plastic and can be recycled without difficulty.

Plastic Kitchen Containers

Some of the plastic containers used for food can be recycled easily, not just because the type of plastic is malleable but also because these containers are not too thick. When buying make sure you look for the standard recycling logo – usually on the underside – just to confirm it.

Consider if you have a food container made from any other type of material, but with a plastic window in the centre, the removable window is usually not recyclable. Yes, agreed it is small but it is made from a different type of plastic that is harder to deal with successfully. Remember the landfill!

Our Friends The Plastic Pens

Plastic pens by the likes of Bic or Pilot (other brands are available) are recyclable when broken down. For instance, with the Bic, the plastic tube can be recycled, but the inner ink tube and the nib that touches the paper cannot. Also, the Pilot gel pen, the outer plastic tubing is recyclable, but the metal tip must be unscrewed and removed along with the ink tube and other non-plastic parts. Careful with the ink though!
